Legend of the Manager | Manager simulation
Practice being a manager through a game. You lead a three-person team through two quarters, and each day you face a management situation that comes up in real workplaces and choose one of three options. Every decision changes the team's KPI, morale, stress, trust and budget, and team members whose satisfaction drops too low may quit. When you finish, you get a Personal Career Development Report that sums up your management style and the decisions that had the most impact.
How to play
- Create your profile: Enter your name and team name and pick a team badge. No sign-up or login needed.
- Set the quarterly OKR: Choose one of three directions as this quarter's focus: Coaching (morale and trust), Execution (KPI and efficiency), or Systems & Process (process and risk management). Options that match your OKR direction are marked, and choosing them adds more progress.
- Handle one situation a day: 20 in the first quarter and 10 in the second, 30 in total. Examples include a 30-60-90 day plan for a new hire, whether to ask for overtime when the project falls behind, conflict between a senior and a junior team member, a high performer receiving an outside offer, a 20% budget cut, a disputed performance rating, microaggressions within the team, and writing a promotion case for a team member. Each option shows its expected impact up front (for example, "KPI ↑, Stress ↑"), and after you choose, you see the "Previous day results."
- Respond to unexpected events: After a decision, there is a chance of an unexpected event, such as a market opportunity or a technical debt crisis, and your metrics shift with it.
- Quarterly review: At the end of each quarter, your results are checked against the quarterly targets (KPI, trust, morale, budget) to see whether the OKR was met. The targets for the second quarter are higher than for the first.
- Personal Career Development Report: After both quarters, you get a final report. You can submit it to the leaderboard or start a new round.
Who it's for
- New managers: Try different approaches without affecting a real team, see what results they bring, and get a clear view of which management style you lean toward.
- HR and training teams: Add the game to manager training and use the management style and key decision review in the final report as material for discussion after participants play.
Key features
- Five team metrics: KPI, morale, stress, trust and budget change in real time. A single decision often raises one and lowers another, so you practice making trade-offs.
- Team members with personalities: The engineer, designer and operations specialist each have two traits, such as disliking vague requirements, needing public recognition, or feeling anxious about high-risk projects. The same decision affects each member differently. If satisfaction falls far enough, a member may quit, and KPI and morale drop as a result.
- Ask the AI HRBP: In every situation you can open an advice window to see built-in, scenario-based management suggestions prepared for that situation, such as analyzing the root cause of a delay first instead of relying only on overtime.
- Budget and investments: Spend budget on things like a team dinner, an upgraded project management tool, or external training to improve morale, stress or member satisfaction.
- Levels and skill tree: Earn experience to level up, with titles running from New Manager all the way to Department Director. Your decisions build points in three skill lines (Coaching, Execution, Systems & Process), unlocking nodes such as SBI feedback, coaching questions, project milestone breakdown, risk buffer design, process SOPs and knowledge management, and the game points out the next node you are closest to unlocking.
- Personal Career Development Report: Includes your final performance (overall score), a management style summary (Coaching Leader, Execution Master, Balanced Strategist, Pragmatic Operator), a review of key decisions (the three most impactful decisions, their effect on the team, and development suggestions), and unlocked achievements.
- Achievements: Six in total, such as "Zero Turnover Legend" for no departures in a quarter, "Servant Leader" for keeping both trust and morale above 85, and "Crisis Management Expert" for successfully handling 3 negative events.
